I started working at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel in September of 2021. Since working there, I have helped execute many events. Some of these include:
- Weddings
- National Guard Ball
- 200+ Person Dinner Events
- Easter Brunch
- Football Watch Parties
- Rehearsal Dinners
- Bridal Showers
- Retirement Parties
-and so much more!
In order to have a successful event, as the Captain of the events, I am in charge of delegating responsibilities to event workers. I ensure that everyone knows what their responsibilities are and that they know where things are that they will need for the event. I will also check in with the main contact of the event to see if there is anything else we can do to make their event more enjoyable. Prior to the event taking place, I make sure everything is set up correctly including place settings, table settings, food settings, and overall that the room is ready to go. After the event is over I am the last to leave, making sure everything gets cleaned up and put away where it is supposed to go.
In April of 2022, I had the privilege of helping plan and execute an Event for the Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation through a Beer and Wine Tasting called Literary Vines. A group consisting of myself and five other women helped the Executive Director of the foundation bring her event to life.
I was mainly in charge of Crisis Management as well as Guest Experience. With that responsibility, I made sure that the event was going to be accessible for everyone and that everyone would feel welcome. I also made sure we had a backup plan for our outdoor setup in case it rained (which it did!). My group and I helped plan the layout, the decor, find volunteers, set up, tear down, and run the event as it was happening.
